Writesonic Review (2026): It's Not a Writing Tool Anymore

What is it (now)?
If you remember Writesonic as the cheap AI blog-post generator, recalibrate: as of 2026 it positions itself as an AI Search Visibility Platform. The core pitch is GEO — generative engine optimization — tracking and improving how your brand shows up in answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google’s AI Overviews, with the familiar AI writing tools now serving that goal rather than being the product.
That pivot explains the pricing, which otherwise looks shocking next to its old identity.
Pricing
- Free plan: still exists, no credit card. You get limited-usage access to the writing features on lighter models (GPT-4o mini, Claude Haiku class). Fine for testing, not for production.
- Paid plans: start around $79/month billed annually, scaling to roughly $399/month on the Growth tier, with Enterprise above that.
Read those numbers as what they are: SaaS-for-businesses pricing. If you wanted a personal writing assistant, this is your answer already — a general chatbot subscription at ~$20/month covers casual drafting better, or Grammarly if what you actually need is editing rather than generation.
What it does well
For its actual target customer — a marketing team that lives on organic acquisition — the GEO angle is early but real. AI answers increasingly mediate product discovery (“what’s the best AI note-taker?” asked to ChatGPT instead of Google), and almost nobody measures their presence in them yet. Writesonic bundles that measurement with content tooling built to act on it, which is a coherent product in a way “yet another AI writer” no longer is.
The writing tools themselves remain competent: SEO-informed drafts, brand voice, bulk workflows. They’re now the means, not the end.
Pros
- One of the first mature GEO/AI-visibility toolsets — a real, underserved niche
- Free plan still exists for kicking the tires
- Writing features are solid and SEO/GEO-aware
Cons
- At $79+/mo, no longer sensible for individual writers
- GEO is a young discipline — expect the feature set (and pricing) to keep shifting
- People arriving from old "cheap AI writer" reviews will be confused by what they find
Who should (and shouldn’t) use it
Use it if you’re a marketing or content team asking “how do we show up in AI answers?” — that’s the exact question this product now exists for, and few competitors address it head-on. Skip it if you’re an individual or side-project writer; the product moved upmarket and away from you. For that use case a general-purpose chatbot plus Grammarly costs a third as much. (Its old rival Copy.ai made a similar pivot toward go-to-market automation, incidentally — that era of $15 AI writers is simply over.)
Test Writesonic's free plan
The free tier is enough to judge the writing quality and poke at the GEO features before committing to business pricing.
Verdict
As a writing tool, Writesonic priced itself out of the conversation — deliberately. As a GEO platform, it’s a credible early mover in a category that will matter more every quarter. Judge it as the latter or not at all. Pricing checked July 2026; this product reinvents itself often enough that you should confirm everything on their site.
